🏥 Demonstrate Key Qualities of a Doctor
The purpose of Oxbridge Interviews as well as to ensure compatibility with the tutorial format is to choose the students that will be the best medical students and doctors at Oxford or Cambridge.
In the interviews, you want to demonstrate the key selection criteria, this is how the admissions tutors will be choosing the successful Oxbridge interviewees.
📜 The Approach
When approaching any question, start by summarising what you are looking at in 1-2 lines so you have a gist of what it is about. e.g. This is a graph plotting the concentration of 2 substances through the day from noon to noon.
ACTH and cortisol both fluctuate throughout the day with concentration spiking in the afternoon and a much greater spike in concentration occurring just before 8 AM.
ACTH concentration is almost always higher than cortisol concentration by varying amounts. Cortisol spikes seemingly follow the general trend of ACTH fluctuations. This could suggest a link between the two .
📝 Data Analysis
During an interview, you may be given a graph or some data to interpret or analyse. You are not expected to know everything but tutors want to see how you think, deduce and come to conclusions. This is your opportunity to demonstrate your observational and analytical skills.
🏥 Prompts
If you don't know something do not be afraid to say. Prompt - ACTH is a hormone that controls the production of cortisol, cortisol is produced in the stress response.
Given the information in the graph and any prompts, don't be afraid to make deductions e.g. the elevated concentration of ACTH and cortisol in the early morning suggest a higher stress on the body at this time.

You don't have to get the answer right. It is important to state what you see nd vocalize your thought process. It is better to be wrong and have shown logical thinking than not to suggest an answer.
